About Us
Our mission as an academy school is to provide an "extended-family" for students. In essence, we are a school within a school. Students travel together for most of the day. The shared classes and experiences encourage close bonds and friendships among students within the academy. Additionally, teachers, as part of the team, provide counseling and guidance for our college bound students, e.g. in completing college applications and scholarship letters. Team building exercises, such as Adventures by the Sea and the Ropes Course, are two of the field trips we take. CSU Monterey Bay, San Jose State University, CSU Stanislaus, Stanford, Fresno State, and UCSC are among the many college campuses we tour. Finally, during junior or senior year, FAST students enroll in their culminating Regional Occupational Program or ROP courses in either Physical Therapy or Sports Medicine. As part of the ROP classes, students acquire skills such as taping and wrapping, and then apply these techniques during internships. Our students assist on the sidelines of SHS games, including football, basketball, and volleyball. They tape their fellow athletes, provide water and ice, assist with stretching, and give any other general sports training as needed. By graduation, students in the FAST Academy are both college ready and job skilled.
